Vital records of births, deaths, and marriages of the town's residents. All town meeting minutes are recorded and filed within this office. All town, state, and federal elections are conducted and recorded with this office.
The Town Clerk's Office is responsible for administrating the oath of office to all elected and appointed town officials, and keeping records of it. All Town boards must post their scheduled meetings at least 48 hours prior to the meeting with the Town Clerk's Office. This is required under the "State's Open Meeting Law". The "Official Posting Board" is located within the Town Hall Building, 62 Arlington Street, Dracut, MA 01826.
All Voter registration and special registration sessions are conducted through the Town Clerk's Office.
Certified copies of Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates are issued through the Clerk's Office, along with Business Certificates, Dog Licenses, Fishing, Hunting and Sporting Licenses. | | | | | | More Information: | | VOTER REGISTRATION & ABSENTEE BALLOT
Any US citizen is allowed to become a registered voter. You must be 18 years old at the time you register or you are allowed to register early if you will be 18 by the day of election. You can register in person at any city or town hall or pick-up a mail-in form and fill it out and mail it in. Persons receiving a new Massachusetts driver’s license can register to vote at the Registry of Motor Vehicles by filling out the back of the license information form.
Absentee ballots are available at least three (3) weeks prior to an election. An absentee ballot can not be hand carried out of the office. The last day to apply for an absentee ballot is noon (12 o'clock) the day before the election. You can request an absentee ballot application by calling the office. A person may vote in person at the Town Clerk's Office during regular hours before an election or have the ballot mailed to them.
ELECTIONS & TOWN MEETINGS
The Town of Dracut holds its annual Election the first Monday in May. Town Meetings are held the first Monday in June and the first Monday in November.
Nomination papers for local Election are available from the Clerk's office Call for information.
Town Meeting Warrant Articles: must be submitted to the Clerk's office 45 days prior to Town Meeting, call for further information.
Massachusetts State & Presidential Election will be posted.
VITAL RECORDS
Birth, Death, and Marriage certificates are available through the Town Clerk's Office. Birth Certificates are available for people whose parents were living in the Town of Dracut at the time of their birth. Death certificates are available for people who were living in Dracut at time of their death. Marriage certificates are available to those people who filed their marriage intentions with the Dracut Town Clerk's office. You do not have to be a resident of the city or town that you file your intentions in.
DOG LICENSES
All dogs once they receive their rabies vaccine must be licensed. Dogs must be licensed on a calendar year. Licenses are available January 1st. A late fee is charged after April 1st.
You can register your dog by mail. Please forward the name, breed, color and age of dog, along with a copy of current rabies certificate (this will be returned), a self-addressed stamped envelope, along with your name, address and a check/money order in the amount of $11.00. If this is submitted after April 1st, a $10.00 late fee must be included.
The Animal Control Office in conjunction with a statewide effort holds a rabies clinic on or about the first week in April. At this time your dog or cat is able to receive a rabies shot and you may also license your dog with no late fee assessed. Call for date and time of Rabies Clinic.
BUSINESS CERTIFICATE
Any business that is not a corporation, doing business in the Town of Dracut is required by law to file a "Doing Business As" (DBA) certificate with the Town Clerk's Office.
This form must be filled out by the owner/owners of business, stating the name, address and type of business. The owner/owners listed must have their signatures notarized. The certificate is renewable every four years. The filing fee is $20.00.
FISHING AND HUNTING LICENSES
Fishing and Hunting licenses are available in the Town Clerk’s Office. A person must show either proof of a previous year’s hunting license or a certificate of completion of a “Basic Hunter Education Course”, in order to obtain a Hunting or Sporting License. All minors who wish to purchase a hunting license must produce the following documentation:
· A basic hunter education course & a letter of consent allowing the minor to hunt from his or her parent or guardian; OR
· A letter signed by the minor’s parent or guardian affirming that the minor will be accompanied at all times by a licensed adult while hunting and a letter of consent allowing the minor to hunt from his or her parent or guardian.
